SEMINOLE COUNTY GOVERNMENT AGENDA MEMORANDUM SUBJECT: Fern Park Area Utilities Improvements Project DEPARTMENT: Economic Development DIVISION: US 17-92 CRA AUTHORIZED BY: William McDerm ONTACT: Kevin Fall EXT, 7133 Agenda Date 01/27/04 Regular [] Consent[] Public Hearing - t:30 [] Work Session [] Briefing Public Hearing - 7:00 [] MOT ON/RECOMMENDATION: Request Board direction regarding the Fern Park Area Utilities Improvements Project BACKGROUND: To address one of the strategic objectives of the US 17-92 Corridor Redevelopment Plan, the Seminole County Environmental Services Department, working in coordination with staff from the cities of Altamonte Springs and Casselberry and from the US 17-92 CRA, has developed preliminary cost estimates for the proposed Fern Park Utilities Improvements Project. Over the past several months, a project team has been meeting to develop a strategy and implementation plan to ensure that all areas within the Fern Park section of the US 17-92 CRA are equipped with centralized potable water and sanitary sewer services. There are several areas along both sides of US 17-92 where centralized potable water and/or sanitary sewer systems are deficient or non-existent. The utility providers in these areas are Seminole County, and the cities of Altamonte Spdngs and Casselberry. The proposed strategy calls for the cities of Casselberry and AItamonte Spdngs to extend service to both the eastern and western sides of the US 17- 92 corridor. The proposed financing plan calls for the use of Community Development Block Grant funds and US 17-92 CRA funds, to assist the respective utilities in covering the costs of constructing these improvements. From a timing perspective, it is important that the implementation plan be developed in concurrence with the Fern Park Development Framework Study.
