Fifteen
minutes after the sailors walked off that ship, that ship went dead, cold plant. The ship was
supposed to leave the next day for San Diego and San Francisco and undergo some major
overhaul. The ship didn't sail for two months. Two months. And these were professional
mariners. They didn't know the intricacies of that plant and they weren't able to get it underway
and I always look at that as an example of what it really means to be professional. Not that they
weren't professional but those sailors knew their plant just like Progress Energy knows its plant
and I would encourage you to consider that seriously before you decide to switch horses. There
was a piece in today's paper, the Orlando Sentinel, and as I sat at breakfast and I read it knowing
I was coming up here this evening, I said this is really applicable. The piece was about the
change in view of President Ford who came into office as a result of President Nixon's
impeachment, resignation and the article goes on to say how Ford was really looked down upon
by people for his decision to pardon Nixon and that now, these many years later, history has
shown that he did not necessarily do the, the wrong thing and I'd like to just read you what it says
here. Its part of the article. It says, two years ago, the Kennedy family gave Ford its Profiles in
Courage Award for the Nixon pardon. A 1974 critic, Senator Edward Kennedy, Democrat in
Massachusetts, turned to Ford at the 2001 ceremony. Quote, "time has a way of clarifying past
events" Kennedy said. And now we see that President Ford was fight as courage and dedication
to our country made it possible for us to begin the process of healing and put the tragedy of
Watergate behind us. Time has a way of clarifying past events. Ford had the courage. I would
only ask you to consider that and exercise the courage afforded you in your responsibilities as
Commissioners, Mayor, in considering the Progress Energy program as it comes before you.
Thank you very much.

BRUCE PRONOVOST: Thank you. Robert Fritz?

SUSAN DOERNER: Mayor?
