I met the corporate individuals. I met the
linemen. I was talking to someone in the audience tonight who just took over responsibilities for
thc Jamestown power station. And I related how I had the opportunity some years ago to have a
tour of that facility and how impressed I was in all the work that Progress Energy and Florida
Power has done to improve the service in the community where I live and I've seen it happen
throughout Central Florida as an entity. I have met Bill Habermyer, President of Progress
Energy. I've spoken with him personally and I've read his articles that he's put in our Orlando
Sentinel. Its my opinion that he is a man of honor and integrity and then what he says that
Progress Energy is dedicated to improving the service and to lowering the costs for electrical
service in this community, I believe him and I think he's doing that. Again, from the corporate
citizen standpoint of view, I don't think there is anyone equal in Central Florida, and again,
there's a famous photograph you may have seen. It hangs in many, many offices around Central
Florida. It's a nighttime satellite photograph and it shows Florida from I-4, the whole length. In
fact, it was that photograph that really spurred what's known as the I-4 high tech corridor because
what you see is a ribbon light that goes from coast to coast. And that ribbon goes right through
Orlando, Central Florida, and it shines like a star. To me, that's a symbol of what our electric
utility company is doing and I know there's more than one electric utility company that serves
Central Florida throughout the various communities, but I'm here to tell you that from my
standpoint of view, they've held up their end of the bargain, and I've paid my bill with, I say
pride every month for fifteen years. I served twenty-seven years in the Navy and during those
twenty-seven years my hometown was New York City, New York State, and for twenty-seven
years, I didn't miss an absentee ballot. I came to Florida in 1988 with the United States Navy,
continued to vote as a citizen of New York until 1991 when I retired fi'om the service and I
immediately registered myself as a citizen of Florida, a driver's license, the whole bit. And from
that day on, I voted here in Florida and I'm proud to say I've never missed voting in an election
