City of Casselberry
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
Regular Meeting — November 14, 2023
Rican dance group in traditional costumes that invited the crowd to be a part of the dance
festivities. Besides the music, there were Latin art shows at City Hall and the Art House.
More than 3,000 people came out to Lake Concord Park on October 21St to take part in the
Halloween Funtoberfest event, put on by various non-profit organizations with assistance from
the City of Casselberry. A costume contest, trick -or -treating, carnival games and bounce house
were enjoyed by all.
The Friday, October 13th Casselberry Food Truck event quickly transformed into a mysterious
stage of strange visual and performing arts that included Victorian Horror Troup acts by
Phantasmagoria, eerie ambient horror movie sounds by DJ Johnny "Black" Velvet, and two
extraordinary art exhibits that explore our mortality titled "Into the Void" at the Art House and
"Common Threads" at the Sculpture House. Over 500 people enjoyed the special addition of
"An Enchanted Evening of Mystic Arts", co-sponsored by the Seminole Cultural Arts Council and
the Society for Historic Casselberry, which featured 35+ unique mystic vendors, magic shows, a
Cosplay Costume Contest with prizes, and lots of other chills and thrills.
The utility box on the corner of 17-92 and Triplet Lake Drive (next to Taco Bell) has been
rewrapped and looks great. Friends of the Park sponsored the original wrap that was placed on
the box in 2017 that lasted about 5 years. As part of the on-going sponsorship and maintenance
of the box, Friends of the Park worked with Casselberry's Platinum Signs to come up with a
refurbish of the box that should last until 2028. The artwork is from Seminole County resident,
Irina Kovnacka, an internationally recognized artist, and the fine arts instructor at Trinity Prep.
Into The Void, the memento mori themed art exhibition was a hit inside the Art House in
October. In November we had the Sanford Seminole Art Association annual art exhibition. In
December the Art Glass Guild of Central Florida is geared up and ready to display a wide variety
of beautiful glass art for the "Glasstastic" event. The opening reception will be held from 6-9
p.m. on Friday, December 8 in conjunction with the annual makers market, the Berry Bazaar,
food truck event. Come out and shop all kinds of one of kind items hand made by local artists.
Legendary singer/songwriter Dana Fuchs made her return to Casselberry at the Craft Beer and
Blues Festival on Friday, November 10t". The event brought out guests from all over Florida.
The Holiday Home Decorating Contest for City residents will be held the first week of
December. The awards are sponsored by New Hope for Kids.
The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 2, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Various schools will be performing, and Santa Claus will show up to turn on the Christmas tree
lights. Besides the singing, there will be a host of children's holiday activities and vendors.
This year's Santa Run will be from December 4th to the 7th from roughly 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The
routes are available at www.casselberrV.org and will be posted on Social media.
