City of Casselberry <br />Parks and Recreation Advisory Board <br />Regular Meeting — November 14, 2023 <br />Board Member Buffy Werle moved to approve the recommendation to the City Commission <br />the name "Casselberry Arts Center" for the new Art building. Motion was seconded by Board <br />Member Woody Bass. Motion carried unanimously 4-0 by voice vote. <br />6. Staff Reports <br />Linda Moore, Recreation Manager, shared updates on the Parks. <br />Renovations to the Casselberry Greenway Trail boardwalks segments located behind Carriage Hill <br />and Hole #1 at the Casselberry Club have been completed. The old wooden board decking was <br />replaced with composite Moisture Shield boards that have a longer lifespan. This month, work <br />will begin on the boardwalk at Wirz Park and it will be closed until the first part of February, 2024. <br />Three magnolias have been planted next to the Quail Pond/Sunset Drive connector to provide <br />additional buffer for residents living next to the trail. Two large 200 -gallon live oaks have been <br />purchased and will be installed to replace tree canopy lost at Lake Concord Park and the new Art <br />House expansion project. The cost for both trees will be reimbursed by Friends of the Park. <br />Wayfinding signage has been placed near the roundabout in front of City Hall that will help <br />pedestrians and vehicles navigate thru the park - especially during events. It also ties in both <br />sides of the park so that the public knows that the promenade is part of Lake Concord Park. The <br />custom made signs with laser cut ferns were created and installed by the Public Works sign shop. <br />This provided substantial savings to the City. <br />More electrical outlets are being installed in the Promenade area at Lake Concord Park. Staff will <br />be able to expand the holiday lighting and decor. <br />Wharton Smith, Inc. is the construction management at risk for the Lake Concord Park/Art House <br />expansion. In honor of the founder of the company, Wharton Smith, Inc. purchased a Memorial <br />Bench that was installed in the back garden area next to the new facility. <br />Additionally, Linda Moore shared Recreation events and Arts updates. <br />Our 14th Annual Swing "Fore" the Arts Golf Tournament was a great success. Eighty golfers <br />enjoyed a beautiful day on the course followed by 4Rivers BBQ lunch, awards and prizes. Many <br />golfers commented that they will be back next year to participate. A big thank you to Cindy <br />Guiles for coordinating the event. <br />More than 4,000 people came out to hear The Pedrito Martinez Group, that headlined this <br />year's Casselberry's Latin Jazz and Art Festival on Saturday, October 7th at Lake Concord Park. <br />Before Martinez came on stage, Venezuelan singer and cuatro player Juan Carlos Salazar <br />warmed up the crowd performing classic Latin ballads.
