volume, maximum flush pipe length, minimum residual pressure, minimum system
pressure, desired number of turnovers, desired flush time, orifice flow coefficient,
hydrant nozzle to operate, man power hours per day and private water main flush status.
Data Required: Hydrant data (make, model, nozzle sizes and condition), valve data (sizes
and condition), privately maintained locations within the City water service area, water
service area boundaries and City staff availability.
Deliverables:
• UDF program design criteria
2.2 UDFZones Design — REI will design City UDF zones by reviewing piping and hydraulic
flow patterns in the distribution system. REI will develop zone sequences, to identify the
flushing hydrant location and valve closures required to flush the zone water distribution
mains, on a sequence flushing diagram template. The City will review the sequence
flushing diagram template and provide input. In addition, REI will use the Model to
determine slow moving water main flow throughout the distribution system which may
allow mineral and sediments to deposit and accumulate over time. This investigation will
be conducted using the peak hour flow (PHF) scenario and will assist in determining the
worse case deposit build-up locations. REI and City staff will select one of the worse
case locations for the UDF pilot test. Also, this investigation will help to determine if the
City should consider cleaning the system transmission (>12 -inch diameter) mains.
Data Required: City staff availability
Deliverables:
♦ Zone formation map
♦ UDF sequence flushing diagram template
6 Peak velocity map
♦ UDF pilot test location selection meeting
2.3 UDF Pilot Test — REI will develop a UDF pilot test plan for the training of flushing
crew(s) leaders. The pilot will utilize flushing crews for valve closures and hydrant
flushes for the selected zone. A maximum of six (6) sequences will be flushed during the
UDF pilot test. The UDF pilot test will demonstrate the UDF program methodology,
identify labor requirements, compare field and Model asset locations, and pinpoint the
necessary water quality data needed for the UDF program. REI will provide a maximum
of one (1) field working day for the UDF pilot test. The UDF pilot test will be a
coordinated effort by the City and REI staff. City staff assistance will be scheduled in
advance to ensure availability.
Data Required: City staff availability
Deliverables:
♦ UDF pilot test plan
• One (1) flushing crew(s) training day
6 UDF pilot test location selection meeting
3 R .ISS •7r;ii'1'EERId,
PLANNING .
