City of Casselberry <br />Parks & Recreation Advisory Board <br />Regular Meeting — October 10, 2017 <br />Parks and Recreation Pathways and Open Spaces Master Plan joint meeting with the Advisory Board <br />and Commission scheduled for November 14tH. No time was set. With the Board's approval it was <br />suggested that the time for this joint meeting be scheduled for 6pm. Unanimously approved. <br />Draft of the Master Plan is online. The Board members should review prior to the meeting in case they <br />have concerns. This meeting is a public meeting. <br />Updates for Veteran's Park, Bird Island and Park's Master Plan. Kelly Brock has reported that the lights <br />near Bird Island have been turned off since the spring season and the bird's have returned. Veteran's <br />Park update — an event is being coordinated with Casselberry Veterans Inc. on Concord. There will be <br />a plaque for rededication and renaming of the park be more inclusive for lost lives and present military <br />members. This event will be November 9t". Time will be determined. Veterans will also be <br />recognized at our Craft Beers and Blues event on Nov. 10tH <br />6. Staff Report <br />Linda Moore reported that the golf course is under new management group, Cypress Golf <br />Management. Kevin Martin is the new general manager. <br />Chairman Vanmeter questioned why we went with an outside company versus the City handling the <br />golf course. Ms. Moore will check into it. <br />7. Board Member Reports <br />Member Valentine expressed concerns about tree debris on trails which has been down since the <br />previous storm. Ms. Moore will try to update from Public Works. You can call Public Works with <br />concerns about certain areas. <br />Member Icenhower expressed concerns regarding the Carriage Hills area trailhead completion. She <br />has had several area residents questioning if there is an estimated completion and if the equipment <br />and portable will be removed. <br />Member Nordstrom reported that the Latin Jazz Festival was awesome. Another request for Franklin <br />Friends to provide funds for dog watering bowls at the parks. <br />Member Holmes reports that the Sunnytown Park fence has been breached. A lot of not so good <br />activity seen there. It is suggested that Parks group could mend the fence to stop the pedestrian <br />traffic trying to shortcut through. <br />Chairman Vanmeter commended the City for their emergency operations center which operated <br />several days before, during and after the storm. One issue that arose was with lift stations being <br />down in some areas. Some sewage was drained into lakes and she reported it and was told that she <br />would get a call back. She did not receive a return call. She does believe that the City should have <br />done something sooner rather than later. The County sent notices out regarding not swimming and <br />fishing, but she felt that the City should have done this also. <br />8. Audience Participation <br />Neil Landgrebe, 451 Lilac Road, Casselberry. - Concerned about large trees in the area that were <br />affected by the storm. The Skatepark needs the respect that tennis courts, baseball fields, soccer <br />fields and basketball courts get because it is an upcoming sport that our City does not have. Other <br />cities include skateparks and our City needs to be up with the times and have a skatepark. The <br />
