CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of June 28, 2021 - Regular Meeting
Page 6 of 13
renderings, estimates, etc., that would justify an appropriations request, so it would be necessary to hire a
consultant right away to accomplish those steps in time to make such a request. He noted that there was no
guarantee that it could be done in time even if the process with the consultant were started immediately, but
at least the process would start moving and staff could begin seeking other funding sources such as
fundraising, contributions, etc. He advised he would be coming back to the City Commission after closing
for consideration to appropriate funds to shore up and secure the property, and at that time he hoped funding
for a consultant to start the planning process could be added. Commissioner Aramendia added that both
the Seminole Arts Council and Habitat for Humanity had reached out to legislators and had received
assistance for this type of thing, so he was hopeful that the City would be successful in its request to them,
as well. Mr. Newlon added that since the City already has a consultant on a continuing service contract,
the process for engaging them and getting started on the process would be quicker, and he anticipated there
would be engagement with the community, the City Commission and the Parks and Recreation Advisory
Board for feedback on the concept plans. He added that he would bring back additional information to the
City Commission on the process as staff learns more about how best to proceed.
B. Municipal Advisory Committee (Metroplan) Report
Mayor Henson had no report but advised that he would be attending the next meeting in Orlando on
Thursday, July 151 and was happy to announce that it would be an in-person meeting.
C. Council of Local Governments in. Seminole County (CALNO) Report
No report.
D. Leadership Seminole Board Report
Mayor Henson reported that he was encouraged by the fact that the group was again meeting in person,
although Zoom access was still being provided for those who preferred to attend virtually. He stated that
things were going well for the group but had nothing specific to report. Commissioner Aramendia added
that he would again be participating in both Government Day and Art and Culture Day for the current class
and would be attending the first planning meeting for Government Day on June 29t".
E. Mayors/Managers Group Report
Mayor Henson reported that the group would not be meeting for the next couple months, so he had no
official report. He briefly shared his recent experience of riding the autonomous bus in Lake Nona with a
group of other mayors. He stated that although he thought it was an interesting concept, he felt the
technology would need to progress much further for it to be feasible to even consider for the City of
Casselberry.
