Second Reading of Ordinance 14-1407 — Amending City Code Chapter 26, Business <br />Tax Receipt Schedule <br />The City Clerk read Ordinance 14-1407 by title as follows: <br />"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CASSELBERRY, FLORIDA, AMENDING THE CODE OF <br />ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF CASSELBERRY, BY AMENDING CHAPTER 26, <br />"BUSINESSES", SECTION 26.45 "BUSINESS TAX SCHEDULE", ADOPTING AN UPDATED <br />BUSINESS TAX SCHEDULE, PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION, CONFLICTS, SEVERABILITY <br />AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE." <br />Notice of Public Hearing: The Notice of Public Hearing for Ordinance 14-1407 was advertised in the <br />Orlando Sentinel on Thursday, May 22, 2014. <br />Staff Presentation: Community Development Director Sandra Smith gave a brief overview of Ordinance 14- <br />1407, explaining that the City had performed a Tax Equity Study in 1995 and with this legislation in place the <br />Florida Statutes then provided that jurisdictions could increase business taxes by five percent every two years. <br />She added that the City had had nine opportunities to increase the taxes since that time but had only done so <br />twice. She called attention to the analysis of the taxes charged by other jurisdictions in Seminole County, <br />noting that the City of Casselberry's fees fell around the middle of the group at this time. <br />Discussion: A brief discussion ensued relating to what the 5% increase would mean in terms of dollars <br />annually for the City's businesses. <br />Commissioner Aramendia left the chambers at 4:48p. m. Commissioner Aramendia returned to the chambers <br />at 4: 52 p.m. <br />Budget Impact: Adoption of this ordinance will provide additional revenue to the general fund. <br />Recommendation: The City Manager and the Community Development Director recommended adoption of <br />Ordinance 14-1407 on second and final reading. <br />
