Earth Fest was a really successful event. The Board was shown of the
"Green -Up" booth. We had large crowds to come into the Chambers for
the speakers that spoke about trees. Hundreds of trees and native
ornamentals were given away. The trees that were left over was put in
the City's conservation areas and North Triplet.
The City's new airboat has arrived (showed picture). It will be taken out
soon and we will get staff comfortable with how is operates. If you are
interested in an airboat ride, let us know and we will check to see if it
would be allowed. The airboat has not been named yet, but your
suggestions are welcomed.
We have a new truck as well for the Lake Management Technicians. It has
all the "bells & whistles" and will be an excellent addition to fulfill the
Division's equipment needs.
FWC Uplands Grant that we are currently utilizing is working on Secret
Lake Park, Marigold Trail Head, and North Winter Park Drive. They have
been working on this for a few months. We may be in the program for the
next cycle, we will submit support for all five of our conservation areas.
6. Educational Outreach: Casselberry Summer Camp will have presentations and the
video "Clear water, clean water" that was shown last meeting will be shown to them.
There will also be a presentation to include some live animals and give them a chance to
learn more about them and interact with them. It would be good for them to see the
airboat and get a close up look at it. Vice Chairman Taylor suggested that the children
name the air boat. All agreed that this is a very good idea.
Clean up done with the Lakes District went very well. It was well attended. We did a
kayak tour and spread volunteers throughout the Triplet Chain to pick up garbage and
debris. We collected at least a gallon of golf balls! We can add a note in the City
Quarterly Newsletter to not hit golf balls into the waterbodies because they do not
disintegrate. A stool was found. To facilitate future events, a kayak trail through the
lilies will be sprayed around the perimeter of Middle Lake Triplet.
The City has been creating videos of various jobs that the City staff members do and
they have been posted on our Face Book page. Ms. Williams shared her video with the
Board. There are others to be viewed also on Face Book.
7. Upcoming Events: Casselberry Summer Camp. The Lakes District would like to do
another clean up. They also removed apple snail eggs in their recent project. The
student that was going to work with us regarding apple snail eggs will not be able to do
so. However, there is another Professor at Rollins that has a research student that is
working on this genetic analysis of the snails. Ms. Williams will meet with the Professor
regarding her helping us with this project. Chairman Lasure was appreciative to get a
description of the jobs that were associated with Lakes Management.
3
