CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of February 13, 2017 — Worksbop
Page 3 of 6
interactions at the events and through an online portal hosted by UCF and through the City's
Facebook page. The survey was distributed for approximately 100 days and 224 surveys were
completed (evenly distributed across the City).
4. Conducted an audit of the existing Comprehensive Plan and compiled preliminary findings of
strengths and weaknesses. (Recommendations on where the City could devote some
resources to addresses the weaknesses and hopefully build on the strengths will be provided in
the deliverable.)
5. Conducted a park audit of Secret Lake Park including 16 hours of observation and over 80
observations to identify the usage at the park and relating that physical activity to
recommendations for future park investments on the part of the City.
6. Conducted a collection of community health indicators, including quality of the built
environment, social and economic factors, health behaviors, health outcomes and some
factors related to the natural environment.
Dr. Hawkins added that the goals developed to date were:
1. Improve access and connectivity;
2. Improve built environment to promote physical activity;
3. Increase access to healthy food options;
4. Enhance and promote social connections through built environment;
5. Promote safety through the design of the built environment.
He advised that the next step would be to continue data analysis, but transition to specific recommendations,
and to hopefully by the end of the semester produce two deliverables: one, a new Comprehensive Plan
element for the Commission to consider; and two, a Community Health Report consisting of the data analysis.
In response to questions, Dr. Hawkins advised that he anticipated late April of 2017 for the deliverables to be
available. She added that the workshop goal was to make sure the consulting
team was on the right track and to get input from the City Commission as to any other priorities that needed to
be addressed. Her presentation included the following components:
