City of Casselberry
Parks & Recreation Advisory Board
Regular Meeting — February 14, 2017
d. Veterans Park
There was discussion amongst the members regarding whether a formal
recommendation to the City Commission to rename Veterans Memorial Park to
Veterans Park should be made. It was agreed that if approved by the City
Commission, it would be important to reach out to the original group involved in
the dedication of the park and to invite them to be part of the rededication and
renaming of the park with a proper ceremony. Member Icenhower inquired if
the flag at Veterans Memorial Park is properly displayed per protocol and was
advised by Recreation Manager Linda Moore that as long as the flag remains lit it
can stay up; if it is not lit, then it must be put and taken down each day.
Audience Participation:
1. Mr. John Casselberry, 700 South Lost Lake Lane, wanted to know if there was an
original plaque found at Veterans Park. He also inquired if the new lighting on the
boardwalk could be turned down. Ms. Moore advised that Deputy Public Works
Director/City Engineer Kelly Brock was addressing that issue.
Member Nordstrom moved to make a formal recommendation to the City
Commission that the Veterans Memorial Park be renamed Veterans Park. Motion was
seconded by Vice Chairman Holmes. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote 5-0.
e. New Lake Concord Park Update
Opened up the new linear portion of the park and there are eight new sculpture
pads have been poured and are ready for new sculptures.
Pop -Up Park area is a nice new addition.
Audience Participation: No one came forward.
f.
