Naming of districts along the City's
commercial corridors (branding) was also suggested. Funding options will be discussed
during the fiscal year budgeting process.
7. Hide utility equipment in neighborhoods such as transformers, life stations, etc.
Identify locations of utility equipment; request voluntary organizations to include
painting, wrapping or screening of equipment on their strategic plan; encourage those
organizations to fund the projects for their districts if they are able, but utilize unused
funds from 2016 Neighborhood Improvement Grant program for the painting projects
and include these projects as part of the revised grant program; utilize local artists for
painting the equipment, and include non - graffiti paint to protect the completed
paintings. Coordinate with the Seminole Cultural Arts Council to do the same along
U.S. Highway 17 -92.
10. Organize a "Fix up the Community" campaign twice a year.
Encourage local charities to provide the volunteers and coordinate the program. The
City could possibly incorporate funding of this strategy by including non - profit
organizations as eligible for grants through the Neighborhood Improvement Grant
program.
CONSENSUS: The City Commission agreed by consensus to take no action on the following t"w
proposed strategies at this time and to hold consideration for a future date after
implementation of some of the other strategies:
8. Partner with the Public Works Department to create and organize a neighborhood
cleanup program quarterly or twice a year.
9. Organize community walks with City department heads to look at issues in the
community.
The Commission thanked the Community Development staff for their work on the update and the proposed
strategies. In response to questions from the Commission about a timeline for the start of work on the proposed
strategies, Community Development Director Sandra Smith advised staff would meet to review the Commission's
feedback and preferred priorities, prepare a report and submit it to the City Manager within sixty to ninety days.
She added that the City Manager would then make it available to the Commissioners, but that staff would be
happy to present the report at a Commission meeting if needed.
