Ms. Smith reviewed the information provided in her
memorandum dated July 10, 2013, to the City of Casselberry Planning and Zoning Commission (a copy is attached
and made a part of the minutes). She reviewed the following items regarding political campaign sign requirements:
1. Temporary sign status
2. Signs between six square feet and thirty two square feet
3. Signs greater than thirty two square fee
4. Sign height
5. Setback distance
6. Sign area
7. Timing
Ms. Smith stated that she has been advised by the City Attorney that the City cannot require a sign deposit
for political signs and the candidate does not have to qualify for the election before placing any political signs in the
city. In response to Ms. Babb - Nutcher's question, Ms. Smith stated that the City Attorney would review the complete
ordinance before it is brought back to the Planning and Zoning Commission for their final review.
A brief discussion ensued regarding the setback distances for the signs, prohibiting mounting political signs
on vehicles, the maximum sign size and height and property owner authorization required for placement of signs on
undeveloped property. Ms. Smith stated that she would do some additional research with the building department to
determine the threshold for requiring a permit for a sign for structure purposes.
The Commission agreed to require the applicant to submit a completed informational form to the City Clerk's
office with their other paperwork and to eliminate the temporary sign permit for signs between six square feet and
thirty two square feet.
