CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of September 23, 2013 — Regular Meeting
Page 15 of 17
2013 -CA- 14615 -K. She added that those she expected to attend the Attorney - Client Session would be
the Commissioners, the City Manager, herself and Assistant City Attorney Debra Babb - Nutcher.
16. CITY CLERK'S REPORT
No report.
17. CITY COMMISSIONERS' REPORTS /COMMENTS
Commissioner Anthony Aramendia — Seat No. 1:
• Commended the Fire Department staff for their work on the "Fill the Boot Campaign ".
• Stated he was looking forward to the Concert in the Park on Saturday featuring Ed Calle.
• Wished Commissioner Hufford a happy birthday.
Commissioner Gene Fry — Seat No. 2:
• Also wished Commissioner Hufford a happy birthday.
• Inquired whether the new rescue vehicle was available for viewing. Chief Harkins explained that it
had arrived, but an electrical problem had been discovered which was being repaired by the
manufacturer. He added he was hoping the problem would be resolved and it would be re- delivered
later in the week. He stated he would notify the City Manager when it arrived and he would be happy
to host any of the Commissioners who would like to see the vehicle. In response to additional
questions from Commissioner Fry, Chief Harkins advised that the new engine was performing well.
• Requested that someone check into the lighting from Concord Drive to Home Depot and the Publix
plaza as they appeared to be out on the east side, which caused the sidewalk to be very dark at night.
He stated that Mr. Fraleigh had brought the problem to the Commission's attention at an earlier
meeting and he had also observed the problem himself. Mr. Newlon advised that Public Works would
look into it.
• Asked for clarification about the situation on Derbyshire, as he shared some of Mr. Fraleigh's
concerns about the street. Mr. Newlon explained that there was an area where the road was collapsing
due to erosion beneath the road. He further explained that the problem was not related to the City's
water quality project or water mains, but was caused by a Seminole County storm drain running under
the road. He stated the City and County were working together on the problem, and the County had
declared it an emergency; however, planning would be required before the construction could be done
and he understood it would be approximately 2 -3 weeks more before the repairs were completed. He
noted that this was a residential area and not a high traffic area, so the problem area had been
barricaded and the traffic was easy to control.
• Reiterated a concern he had expressed earlier that he felt the fees charged for canoe and kayak rentals
was too high and he would like to see them lowered in order to get more activity on the lakes. Mr.
Newlon agreed that the issued required some follow up and would have to come back to the
Commission as a resolution. Commissioner Fry also inquired about the possibility of signage
