CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of August 26, 2013 — Regular Meeting
Page 3 of 17
used to add it to the design. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation is attached to and made a part of
these minutes.
Discussion: Discussion ensued regarding design components, including: paving; bricking; drainage; bicycle
and pedestrian components; sidewalks; landscaping; medians; sanitary sewer and reclaimed water line
extension; signage; costs; maintenance issues; FDOT permits; safety issues; road narrowing; and traffic
calming options.
Consensus: The Commission agreed by consensus to provide the following design direction
relating to the Oxford Road and South Triplet Lake Drive Complete Street
Improvements Project:
Oxford Road:
1. Include brick intersections as a bid alternate;
2. No elevation change in intersections - utilize brick or texture change only (no
elevation change also simplifies drainage);
3. No on- street parking;
4. 11 -foot travel lanes; 5 -foot bike lanes; 8 -foot sidewalks; remainder devoted to
landscape (includes narrowing medians where needed to accommodate bike lanes);
5. Close median at Denny's to prohibit left -hand turn;
6. No colonization of bike lanes;
7. Crosswalks at areas of Suburban Lodge and curve with brick as bid option, or
thermostrip;
8. Examine options and talk to Homeowners' Association regarding simplification of
Carriage Hill intersection;
South Triplet Lake Drive:
1. 11 -foot travel lanes;
2. 6 -foot sidewalks with 2 -foot buffer between sidewalk and pavement, either grass or
shrubs; also look into brick as a bid option;
3. Possibly keep a portion of the sidewalk at 8 feet in the area of Southcot Drive as a
transition to the Greenway Trail.
4. Include improvements and a crossing at the Lost Lake intersection as part of the
design; also look into brick as a bid option;
Discussion: Additional brief discussion ensued about various lighting options. Dr. Brock advised lighting
issues would be considered separately, as that would involve a contract with Duke Energy. He added that staff
had a preliminary meeting with Duke regarding the lighting products they offered, and he believed there were
new options for commercial and decorative lighting that could be considered.
