build another 150,000 s.f. super store in the City, the proposed Walmart site on U.S. 17- <br />92 is an ideal location to house the proposed facility. Additionally, staff is looking at an <br />alternative site for a smaller youth sports facility on the City's 15 acres, should the <br />Robbins project not move forward. The sports facility concept has also been strongly <br />suggested to the Jai Alai owners. <br />Staff has continued to explore "game changer" initiatives for the City as follows: <br />• Indoor Amateur Sports facility -- Researched the requirements to establish <br />such a facility through conversations with the management company American <br />Sports Centers. Explored and ruled out the possibility of placing such a facility on <br />the City Center property. Met with County parks staff to discuss County sports <br />facility needs. Met with the new owners of Jai Alia explored possibility of the <br />Sports Facility for that location. <br />• Digital Media Business Cluster and Incubator -- Thoroughly researched <br />business incubators including trips to UCF, Sanford Business Incubator and <br />Winter Springs Business Incubator. Evaluated the potential of establishing a <br />digital media business incubator at the Wachovia building and the Bally building <br />on SR 436. Met with Chief Operating Officer Ken Goldstone, of Full Sail <br />University to discuss partnering possibilities including expanding Full Sail into <br />Casselberry, and establishing a digital media incubator in the City. Continued to <br />evaluate the use of federal Economic Development Agency grants. Arranged to <br />submit for the Space Coast job creations grant for relocation of Industrial Smoke <br />and Mirrors to the Microvia site. <br />• Other: Restaurant Row/ Culinary Arts Cluster -- Explored this concept with <br />Chef Keith Keogh recognizing that this possibility is predicated first on the <br />establishment of Estados 11 on the Lake Concord property. <br />ACTION ITEM #2: Define the City —find a niche through means of economic <br />development, events, programming, and /or branding. <br />tom- <br />Paddlefest 2011 <br />Together with Friends of the Park and Travel Country, <br />the City hosted the first Get Outdoors! Casselberry <br />paddlefest event at Secret Lake Park on July 23`d <br />The City held the Autumn Rock 'n' Run 5k featuring a <br />lot of high energy and live music on Saturday, <br />September 10, 2011. Approximately 1600 runners <br />participated. <br />Programs such as Movie in the Park and other Art <br />House programs continued. <br />
