City's streams and lakes. The vacuum feature will allow the debris to be
i
sucked up and discarded at a different location, instead of being pushed
into the storm drainage system. Dr. Brock mentioned that the purchase of
the street sweeper as well as a graphic wrapping was approved in the
Stormwater, Lake Management, and Water Quality Master Plan and is
funded by the Stormwater Utility Fund. A brief discussion about signage
and proposed graphics ensued. Suggestions and ideas mentioned
included using the City's website (www.casselberry.org/lakes),
incorporating a water droplet graphic, using a "No Dumping.....Drains to
Lake" slogan and/or storm drain marker image, recurring logos for this
and other media, using a graphic similar to the City's website banner, etc.
More discussion will follow as the City begins the process of obtaining
quotes for the graphic wrap process.
® America's Crown Communities Award- the City of Casselberry received an
award for the various NRCS-funded erosion control projects (most
resulting from Tropical Storm Fay) that were completed in 2008/2009.
Casselberry was one out of eleven municipalities selected nationwide for
the America's Crown Communities Award. An article in the December
2009 issue of the American City & County ®magazine described the
merits of this award. Dr. Brock advised that he would send a copy of the
article (in PDF format) to all Board members.
C. Educational Signage for Lake Concord Park: Dr. Brock mentioned that the
Lake Concord Park project was nearing completion and that the City would be
pursuing more signage for the park. Dr. Brock polled the Board for suggestions
for the number of signage necessary to keep the park from being overcrowded
and the type signage that would be appropriate for educational purposes. To
date, four (4) signs have been installed and eight (8) are remaining. The City
hopes to have the remaining signage installed by February. Suggestions include
using pictures of plants and using less language, getting professional input from
graphic artists, reducing the number of signs in the park, and incorporating a
small, recurring "Don't feed the water fowl" sign. Dr. Brock also mentioned that
the City would attempt to have manufacturers of the flexipave, pervious concrete,
etc, pay for signage introducing their product.
5. New Business:
A. Water Quality Sampling and Reports: Dr. Brock reviewed the Water Quality
Reports for August 2009 created by Dr. Harvey Harper of ERD, Inc.
