Mr. Martin stated he spoke with American Sports Group and they
could manage the sports arena and turn a profit for the City. He said American Sports Group estimated $10 million
was needed to build the facility. Mr. Lander felt the City should
pursue efforts for the development of the CRA's three lots and the Bennett Auto Part's property. He said that Ms.
Lillian Casselberry has suggested closing Melody Lane and joining those five parcels to develop something
significant in that area.
Mr. Lander suggested changing the verbiage for the Civic Center (Section 2.1.6) to state the "current"
concept. He felt that it showed the City's vision but provides the flexibility needed. Mr. Lander said he is against the
City acquiring additional properties but he was in favor of the City taking care of the basic items to prepare the sites
to sell.
Mr. Lander stated that an extension to the CRA is a political item and he suggested that the City request the
extension six to nine months before the next political election.
