As you
know there was a lot of emotion-emotion generated by misinformation, innuendo
and rabble rousing tactics. Not that this isn't a real is!

You obviously made an astute observation concerning this with the
that people you their inputs and then the Staff could take another shot at it. Good
idea and one that I hope provides some level of compromise. You asked for the one.
single most important item that people are concerned about. I hope you receive some
helpful answers,

First of all I need to let you know that I live in Lake Grit11n Estates.. a
community with a strong homeowners association. We have our own regulations
commercial vehicles and parking which are much stricter than anything proposed by the
City, So, the outcome of this does not really affect me and my neighbors directly,
However, it does affect us from an overall property value point of view, tl'om a perception
point of view (how others view Casselben'y) and from a pride point of view.

The most overriding thing that I noticed last night was the fact that those
people objecting to the proposed ordinance exhibited an inferiority complex, They all
called themselves "blue collar" people who just couldn't do any better. If they couldn't
park their work vehicle in their driveway their most important asset in life would be
gone. They are placing their emphasis in the wrong place. It is highly unlikely that
their work vehicle will ever build them any degree of wealth. On the other hand. it is
highly likely that their home could build them some considerable level of wealth and it is
probably the single most valuable asset they will ever own. This is like ignoring the long
term for the short, Or not being able to see the forest for the trees. The location of that
home is important to its value increase. The surroundings of that home are equally
important to increasing value,

I also heard the theory that Casselberry has been, is and always wiII be a "blue
collar" town, Implying that "blue collar" is somehow bad and none of us can ever expect
to do any better, Implying that we deserve topless establishments, smoky bars and run
down surroundings. There is no upward direction in life just a static situation or a
degrading one, This negative approach to life, in and of itselt~ creates bitter attitudes and
persecution complexes. This has to be the most pessimistic view I've ever heard. This
view is why some people do not want change or growth for Casselberry. And. it is this
very view that if allowed to persist, will ultimately prevent these same people from being
able to afford to continue to live in Casselberry because taxes will increase.. due to static
property values and a declining tax base. I believe that these "objectionists" fail
Economics 1 0 1.

In my neighborhood we have so called "blue color" workers too if that means
pickup trucks and work vehicles. We also have every ethnic group imaginable. But.
somehow these people manage to park their vehicles in the garage ovemight or remove any
signage if parked in the driveway. We also have residents that have boats, jet skis motor
homes, campers, etc., but if they do not fit in the garage then they park them off premises at

http://webmail.pas.earthlink.net/wam/msg822.j sp?msgid=2660&id822=2660-1 &1'older= IN... 7/26/2006
