VOLUNTEER ADVISORY BOARD APPOINTMENTS/RATIFICATION

Commission Discussion: Mayor Goff outlined how he was going to manage the process for the board
appointments. Mayor Goff stated appointments would be made to the Police Officers' & Firefighters'
Pension Board first, followed by the Civil Service Board, Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, the Senior
Center Advisory Board, the Code Enforcement Board, the Board of Adjustment and the Planning & Zoning
Commission. BalJots were made for boards that had more applicants than vacancies, and each Commissioner
would rank their choices with a sliding scale of points assigned to the ranking in an effort to limit tie
situations. Mayor Goff further stated the City Attorney has clarified that no one can serve on two boards
simultaneously with the only exception being someone could serve on the Senior Center Advisory Board and
another board. Commissioner Hufford voiced concerns regarding those qualified applicants who applied for
multiple boards being eliminated prior to being considered for the board they listed as their preference on
their application. Mayor Goff stated if the applicant was present, he would ask them what their preference
was, and for those not present, their stated preference on the application would be the primary consideration.
Commissioner Doerner voiced concerns that the suggested new process was more complicated than past
practice.

Staff Presentation: Mrs. McPherson stated she had received one (1) additional application for the Planning
& Zoning Commission from Nathan Van Meter on January 24, 2005 that the City Commission may wish to
consider it along with the other applications which were submitted by the January 12, 2005 deadline.

MOTION:

Commissioner Doerner moved to accept Nathan Van
Meter's applicatiou to be considered for appointment
to the Planning & Zoning Commission with the other
applications.
