CASSGLBCRRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of January 13, 2025 — Regular Meeting
Page 7 of 8
forward to continuing it as an annual event.
Reported that the City of Casselberry had hosted the Council of Local Governments in
Seminole County (CALNO) meeting on Wednesday, January 8ri' at the Casselberry Arts Center,
and City Manager Randy Newlon had given a presentation on Parks Bond Projects Update,
which included Wheel Park, Phases 1 and II, and Wirz Park. He thanked the Commissioners
for lending their support by attending the meeting, and the City Clerk and staff for setup and
preparation for the meeting.
Suggested that since the projects will hopefully be completed within a year, the Commission
may wish to task the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to work on coming up with potential
names for the new and renovated parks, as he felt the existing names would not be sufficient to
let the public know what was at those locations, and he would like to see the park names reflect
that they were 110t just parks but destinations. He noted that that had been the process for the
naming of the Casselberry Arts Center, and he would like to do something similar in finding
the appropriate names for the newly renovated Wirz Park and the new parks as well.
Commissioner Nancy Divita - Seat No. 2:
Wished everyone a Happy New Year.
Recently attended the following events and meetings: Senior Holiday Luncheon hosted by the
Police Department on December 20f' at the Recreation Center; the Council of Local
Governments in Seminole County (CALNO) meeting at the Casselberry Arts Center on January
8"'. Commended City Manager Randy Newlon on the presentation and thanked Public Works
Director Dr. Kelly Brock and Special Projects Manager Martin Butcher for providing the
information for the presentation, particularly the aerial photos that were provided.
Commissioner Thomas E. Kirk — Seat No. 4:
• Wished everyone a Happy New Year.
Vice Mayor Mark Busch — Seat No. 3:
Also wished everyone a Happy New Year.
Agreed with Commissioner Aramendia on his suggestion about re -naming the renovated Wirz
Park and naming the Wheel Parks, as lie felt this was very important in marketing those parks
to the public. He stated he was also glad that the presentation on the parks had been done at
the CALNO meeting, as lie felt it was important for the other cities and CALNO members to
see all that is being done here in the City of Casselberry.
City Clerk Donna Gardner asked for clarification fi-0111 Commissioner Aramendia as to whether lie was
looking for staff to present ideas to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, or for the Advisory Board to
come up with the names. Commissioner Aramendia advised his intent was for staff to make
recommendations to the Advisory Board as they had done with the Casselberry Arts Center.
