City of Casselberry <br />Parks and Recreation Advisory Board <br />Regular Meeting—April 9, 2024 <br />Upon conclusion of the presentation, Board Vice Chair Woody Bass opened the floor for <br />comments from the board. Board Member Buffy Werle asked if the project was staying on <br />budget and Linda Moore responded yes. She also inquired about the permitting fee. Linda <br />Moore stated that the permit would not have to be pulled by us if Wharton Smith installs the <br />concrete slab. Board Vice Chair Woody Bass asked if these Pavilions were the same as the ones <br />placed at Secret Lake Park. Linda Moore responded yes, with a few size and shape variations to <br />accommodate the space. Board Member Sarah Wilson asked if the playgrounds included <br />shading. Linda Moore responded yes, just like the ones at Secret Lake Park. <br />Board Vice Chair Woody Bass asked for comments from the public. There were none. <br />Board Member LeAnn Nash moved to provide a favorable recommendation to the City <br />Commission to approve the purchase of the two Pavilions from Rep Services Inc. for the Wirz <br />Park project in the amount of $122,381.60, as presented by Linda Moore. Motion was <br />seconded by Board Member Buffy Werle. Motion carried unanimously 4-0 by voice vote. <br />6. Staff Reports <br />a) Park Improvements and Updates <br />Linda Moore, Recreation Manager, shared the old playground equipment was removed <br />because it was unsafe at Branch Tree Park. Additionally, the swing sets were refurbished. At <br />Lake Concord Park there are now several new concrete outlet posts and four new 220 outlets <br />to encourage our food truck vendors to use electricity instead of the loud gas -powered <br />generators. Also, new plants and mulch have been installed throughout the park. At Plumosa <br />Oaks Park, the volleyball net and poles have been replaced and the court surface improved with <br />100 tons of sand. Additionally, new safety mulch was installed at the playground area. New <br />recycled tree mulch was installed at the Pawmosa Dog Park. Two of the bleachers from Wirz <br />Park have been relocated to the sidelines of the multi-purpose fields at Secret Lake Park. Board <br />Vice Chair Woody Bass inquired about the safety mulch. Linda Moore stated that it is a special <br />engineered fiber mulch that is different from rubber mulch. <br />b) Recreation Events and Arts Updates <br />Linda Moore shared that the groundbreaking events for Wirz Park and "Wheel" Park Phase I <br />and 11 took place on April 3rd and April 81h. Our next Food Truck event is this Friday the 12th at 6 <br />PM and features musical artist Bob Green. May's event is on the 10th and features music <br />veteran Ace Suggs. The Earth Fest event is on Saturday, April 27th from 10 AM to 3 PM and is <br />
