City of Casselberry Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Regular Meeting —September 12, 2023 Gumbo Wars Inc. and Central Florida Junior Anglers to teach kids how to fish. Participants must sign up ahead of time. On Friday, November 10th the Craft Beer and Blues Festival will showcase the legendary singer/songwriter Dana Fuchs. The event, sponsored by Trustco Bank and the Orange Blossom Blues Society, is 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with music, food trucks, art exhibits and vendors. Trustco Veteran's 5K Run starts at 8 a.m. on Sunday November 12th at Lake Concord Park. Proceeds from the run will benefit JOSH -Just Our Soldiers Helpers. Greater Orlando Soccer Academy (GOSH) and the City of Casselberry have teamed up to provide three amazing fall programs for youth soccer players ages 4 to 12. Participants will learn the FUNdamentals of the game in practice sessions during the week and will then get to showcase their knowledge with games on Friday evenings. This 8 -week program begins September 11 and is $150.00 for all participants. Wirz Park Pool is now closed for the season. Board Chair Katy Farmer asked for questions or comments from the public. There were none. 7. Board Member Reports Board member Woody Bass expressed appreciation for the great job on the Secret Lake Park grand re -opening event stating it was well attended and that there was positive feedback from those who were present. Additionally, he wanted to thank the City for recognizing the Pulse victims on the anniversary back in June. Board member Nick Santiago reiterated appreciation for a great job on the Secret Lake Park grand re -opening event along with the work being completed to this point on the parks. He stated with all of the challenges facing rising costs, how wonderful that the City was able to obtain grants and other funding sources to keep the integrity of the plans for improvements to be made to the parks. In addition, he shared that the new lighting at Secret Lake Park has made a vast difference and looks great. Additionally, he expressed thanks for all of the hard work. Board Chair Katy Farmer shared how wonderful it is to have all of these spaces and places to bring family and friends to in Casselberry. She expressed excitement for how beautiful the new art house is and for its grand opening soon. She shared thanks and congratulations for the hard work and awarding of the grants. 8.
