City of Casselberry <br />Parks and Recreation Advisory Board <br />Regular Meeting — May 9, 2023 <br />Upcoming events include the Rock N' Blues Concert and Car show with headliner The Georgia <br />Thunderbolts on Saturday of Memorial weekend, May 27th from 4 to 9 p.m. The opening act is <br />Steelin' Peaches where one of the band members performed here in the past when he was 14 <br />years old. Once again, we will honor the Veterans at the event. Food Truck events are the <br />second Friday of every month with the next one being this Friday. <br />The City has been celebrating Older American's Month in May with various activities planned <br />for each Friday of the month. These will include a senior educational resource event, take your <br />Grandparents to the park day, Armed Forces Day to honor our Veterans, and an awards <br />ceremony and celebration on the last Friday, May 26th <br />The Sculpture Garden continues to grow at the Sculpture House. Our current Art exhibits <br />include the FAME exhibit in City Hall until August 17th and the Senior Art show in the Art House <br />until May 30th. Summer Art Academy begins on June 5th and is taught by Seminole County Art <br />teachers. <br />The murals at Secret Lake Park and Municipal Way have been repainted by the original artist <br />Rudy Drapiza. The paint for these two murals was donated by Sherwin Williams. <br />Upon conclusion Ms. Moore requested comments and questions from the Board. Board <br />member Woody Bass inquired about advertisement for the upcoming Senior Month activities. <br />Ms. Moore shared that word of mouth is the best way to communicate the events along with <br />fliers/printed materials as the seniors like something they can take home and look at. <br />7. Board Member Reports <br />Board Member LeAnn Nash shared she and family members attended the Spring Jazz event and <br />had a great evening. She stated that the City of Casselberry has been designated as the <br />Monarch Butterfly capital of Central Florida. She also shared that Friends of the Park provided <br />education and kid activities regarding Monarch Butterflies at the Earth Fest event. She stated <br />she had questions about some of the vendors that were at the event and that there were <br />several complaints made. She expressed wanting to know the approval process for vendors at <br />our events. She shared that she is excited about our Senior Month events planned for May. <br />Board member Woody Bass expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve on the Board. <br />He shared that he attended Earth Fest and was impressed with the number of vendors that <br />participated. Additionally he shared that he has made an effort to visit all of the parks and has <br />made it to all but one. <br />Board Chair Katy Farmer expressed appreciation for the opportunities provided that help make <br />the City of Casselberry a vibrant community. She expressed excitement for all of the art <br />elements throughout the City and how very impressive they are. <br />
