City of Casselberry <br />Parks and Recreation Advisory Board <br />Regular Meeting—January 10, 2023 <br />Board Member Nick Santiago moved to provide a favorable recommendation to the City <br />Commission to suspend the current project at Sunnytown Park reallocating the Park Bond <br />funds to the other parks, and to come up with a funding plan for future maintenance of the <br />park. Motion was seconded by Board Member Dia Nordstrom. Motion carried unanimously 3- <br />0 by voice vote. <br />7. Staff Reports <br />a) Parks Update <br />Linda Moore, Recreation Manager, shared staff has met with the City's consultant for this <br />project (CPH) to review "90%" plan comments for Wirz Park. This project is anticipated to go <br />before DRC (Development Review Committee) in early 2023. Construction is anticipated to <br />begin in August 2023 and will likely take approximately a year. Staff is reviewing the "90%" <br />plans for Phase 2 of "Wheel Park." Both phases are anticipated to go before DRC in early 2023. <br />Construction is anticipated to likely begin in very late 2023 or early 2024. The treehouse <br />themed playground equipment was recently updated and refurbished with replacement parts <br />at Plumosa Oaks Park. The tennis court at Lake Hodge Park will be renovated. Renovations will <br />include pickleball striping. Pickleball is now considered to be one of the fastest growing sports <br />in the United States. <br />Recreation Update <br />Linda Moore shared the annual Tree Lighting event had one of the largest crowds in recent <br />years with nine performance groups providing the entertainment. We received positive <br />feedback from our annual Santa Run event. The Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest sponsored <br />by New Hope for Kids included many wonderfully decorated houses. The winners can be <br />viewed on the City's website. The Seniors enjoyed their Annual Christmas luncheon which <br />included gift basket and gift card door prizes. We will be having our Mardi Gras event on <br />Saturday, February 181h with music by the Porch Dogs. <br />b) Arts and Culture Update <br />Linda Moore, Recreation Manager, shared an update on upcoming events. In City Hall now <br />through the end of February is the Seminole County Printmakers exhibition. The reception for <br />the event will be held during the Mardi Gras event on Saturday, February 181h from 6:00 to 8:00 <br />pm. From January 16 through March 24 at the Sculpture House is the Eugene Ofori Agyei solo <br />exhibition. A reception will also be held on February 18th. Currently at the Art House is the <br />Florida Painters Group exhibit and their reception will be this Friday, January 13th from 6:00 to <br />8:00 pm during the Food Truck event. <br />
