CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of September 12, 2016 — Regular Meeting
Page 7 of 15
due to unforeseen field conditions will need an additional $70,369.50 in order to begin construction.
Account Number Account Description Amount
Increase:
001-0410-572.63-24 Improvements Other $70,370
Decrease:
001-0410-572.62-25 Building Improvements $ 6,370
001-0411-572.47-06 Printing & Binding $14,000
001-0722-519.46-00 Repair & Maintenance $50,000
Recommendation: The City Manager and the Public Works Director recommended approval of Resolution
16-2906 and Budget Amendment #16-062.
Discussion: Cormnissioner Meadows inquired about the possibility of painting pickleball lines on at least two
of the tennis courts during the reconstruction, as it seems to be a sport growing in popularity. Discussion
ensued regarding the possibility, including: what the game of pickleball entailed; what would be involved in
including pickleball lines on the tennis courts; whether those lines would result in a distraction to the tennis
players; possibility of including addition of lines to the contractor's scope ofwork and resulting costs; whether
the game was popular enough to warrant a change to the contract; whether courts at other parks would be more
appropriate than those at Secret Lake Park; and whether the issue should be looked at by the contractor
preparing the Parks Master Plan for possible inclusion in the plan, rather than wrapping it into the work
currently contracted at Secret Lake Park and possibly slowing the process down for reconstruction of the
courts. It was agreed that staff should contact the contractor preparing the Parks Master Plan to research the
feasibility of including a pickleball component, and that reconstruction of the tennis courts at Secret Lake Park
should continue as currently planned.
MOTION: Vice Mayor Aramendia moved to approve Resolution 16-2906 and related
Budget Amendment #16-062, as presented. Motion was seconded by
Commissioner Solomon. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote 5-0.
8. DISCUSSI®let ITEMS
A.
