5. Groundwater Seepage:
a. Installation of seepage meters: A total of 12 groundwater seepage meters will be
installed in Queens Mirror Lake (4 sites), South Lake Triplet (5 sites), and Middle
Lake Triplet (3 sites) to determine the quality and quantity of shallow groundwater
seepage entering the lakes. The seepage meters will be installed in shallow and
deep areas of the lake and will include a range of land use, waste disposal
techniques, and topographic characteristics in upland areas adjacent to the seepage
meters. Proposed locations for seepage meters are given on Figure 2.
Figure 2. Proposed Seepage Meter Monitoring Sites.
b. Routine monitoring of seepage meters: Seepage monitoring will be conducted for
a period of 6 months, with a total of 4 monitoring events conducted during the 6 -
month period. Seepage samples will be collected more frequently during wet season
conditions and less frequently during dry season conditions. Assuming that seepage
meters are installed in late -August, seepage monitoring events will be conducted
during the months of September, October, December, and February. During each
collection event, the quantity of seepage collected in each seepage meter will be
measured, and a sample of the collected seepage will be returned to the ERD
laboratory for chemical analysis. Water samples collected from the seepage meters
will be analyzed for the following parameters ($81.50/sample):
PROPS \QUEENS MIRROR/TRFPLET CHAIN -OF -LAKES HYDROLOGIC -NUTRIENT BUDGET EVALUATION FEE -AUGUST 2010 PAGE 3
