CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of March 26, 2012 — Regular Meeting
Page 15 of 16
Chairman of Metroplan on the final step for the flyover project money, which is to go through
Metroplan. He added that he will also be talking with him about the Oxford Road realignment issue,
and possibly annexations.
Reported that he and the Mayor had attended a Town Hall meeting held by the City of Sanford on the
Trayvon Martin issue prior to the City Commission meeting this evening. He stated it was good for
the area elected officials to be there and show support not only for their fellow elected officials in
Sanford, but for the community at large. Stated that his heart breaks for the Martin family, and his
prayers and thoughts go out to them and the entire community.
Vice Mayor Colleen Hufford — Seat No. 4:
• Thanked Commissioner Miller and Mayor Glancy for attending the meeting in Sanford.
• Commended staff for the successful Jazz Fest event. Stated she played in the golf tournament the day
before with her family and although they came in last, they thoroughly enjoyed participating in the
tournament.
• Thanked Commissioner Aramendia for his work with the Friends of the Park, stating that the work all
the volunteers do is very important.
• Stated she is looking forward to all the things that are going, and that she is trying to relate to people
that while the flyover is under construction it will be painful, but the final results will be beautiful.
Mayor Charlene Glancy — Seat No. 5:
• Submitted a draft of a thank you letter for Secretary of Transportation Ananth Prasad for the
Commission's review. After a brief discussion Commission consensus was to send the letter as
written with the inclusion of a reference to the 17-92/436 intersection being the busiest in Central
Florida and one of the busiest in the state, and to copy Representatives Brodeur and Dorworth.
• Stated that the Jazz Concert was fantastic and also thanked Commissioner Aramendia for his work
with Friends of the Park and Hands on Orlando.
• Reported that she will be meeting with Commissioner John Horan on Thursday to ask for his support
for the flyover, as well as other issues.
• Stated that the meeting on the Trayvon Martin was a cultural experience and a heartwarming
experience. She stressed the importance of getting all the facts and evidence together as soon as
possible in order to bring a sense of peace back to Sanford and the surrounding communities.
18.
