CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION <br />Minutes of June 28, 2021 — Regular Meeting <br />Page 9 of 13 <br />■ Parking Lot Improvements <br />Cost Estimate Summary <br />Input from the Public Participation Meeting held June 1, 2021 <br />Staff Comments for Commission Consideration <br />o Consider alternate or modified cost-effective building treatments and site designs <br />o Ceilings <br />■ Closed vs. Open <br />o Landscaping <br />■ Tree line along northern property line <br />■ Relocate tree from front entry to accommodate future sculpture location <br />■ Relocate EV charging stations <br />Commission Guidance Needed on Cost Reduction Recommendations <br />o Remove cost allowances for: park benches, handmade podium and deck benches <br />crafted out of reclaimed wood, and art rack <br />o Use composite moisture shield deck (city standard) instead of Kebony material <br />o Evaluate need for raised composite deck versus concrete alternatives <br />o Remove concrete ribboning and banding around overflow parking lot <br />o Reduce use of terracotta facade treatments on the exterior of the building <br />o Reduce clerestory shading at corners of buildings <br />o Consider interior design Option 2 (included in base estimate) <br />o Assess need for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations <br />o Evaluate need for covered walkway to the Art House <br />o Evaluate need or sprinkiered fire suppression system <br />o Assess need for 7 entry points into the building <br />Recommendation: <br />o Staff is seeking guidance from the City Commission regarding the 30% design plans <br />and requesting that the City Commission provide direction on key changes and updates <br />to be incorporated into future iterations of the plans. <br />Discussion: Discussion ensued which included potential cost savings strategies; materials; landscaping; <br />and electrical vehicle charging stations. In response to questions from the City Manager, Mr. Fathelbab <br />clarified that unless the City Commission had specific opinions on a particular aspect of the design that had <br />been presented, he was seeking approval and direction for staff to continue to work with the City's <br />consultants on the details of the design. He noted that the design would again be presented to the City <br />Commission at 90% completion, and then again for the final GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price), which <br />could possibly be combined with presentation of the final site plan. He added that the anticipated timeline <br />for the project if all goes well will be to get approval of the final site plan by January of 2022 and <br />construction completion by the end of 2022. The Commission as a whole expressed support for the design <br />at this point, the efforts being made to keep the project within budget, and the recommendations from staff. <br />Budget Impact: There is no impact to the City Budget at this time. <br />Recommendation: The City Manager and the Public Works Director requested guidance from the City <br />Commission regarding the 30% design plans to help develop the next iteration of plans. <br />Audience Participation: No one came forward to address the City Commission regarding this item <br />
