CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION Minutes of August 23, 2021 — Regular Meeting Page 10 of IC ADA Background o Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for person with disabilities in employment, State and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation o ADA mandates that public entities having 50 or more employees perform a self- evaluation of all public facilities and the services offered by the entity to determine ADA compliance and develop an ADA Transition Plan to address the removal of any accessibility barriers or ADA compliance issues discovered during the self-assessment process Process Overview o In 2018, City hired a consultant to assist with self-evaluation and development of Transition Plan o Focused on public building and pedestrian facilities o Identified deficiencies o Identified and prioritized corrective actions o Estimated costs and developed 20 -year implementation plan (Fiscal Years 2021-2040) o Public input sought via web posting of draft ADA Evaluation and Transition Plan, plus this public City Commission meeting o Next Steps: Finalize, adopt, and implement Plan Building Evaluations o Publicly accessible building facilities evaluated: • Art House ■ City Hall ■ Dew Drop Park ■ Golf Clubhouse ■ Lake Hodge Park ■ Police Department ■ Public Works Administration ■ Secret Lake Park (Recreation Center and park restrooms) ■ Wirz Park o Example evaluation elements ■ Accessible paths ■ Parking ■ Curb ramps ■ Entrances/exits ■ Signage ■ Toilets ■ Drinking fountains ■ Ramps ■ Doors Example evaluation criteria ■ Space and clearance dimensions ■ Slope ■ Walkway widths ■ Reach ranges ■ Maneuverability measurements
