CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of June 9, 2014 — Regular Meeting
Page 15 of 16
Advised he would like to see the City pursue annexation to extend the City's boundaries in order to
gain commercial activity and increase the City's tax base. A brief discussion ensued regarding the
feasibility of extending the City's boundaries along U.S. Highway 17-92 past the Jai Alai property, as
the City had previously deannexed the right-of-way in that area in the early 1990's. Commissioner Fry
stated he just wanted to raise the annexation issue again as something for the Commission to think
about for the City's future.
Commissioner Sandra Solomon — Seat No. 3:
Stated she had received an inquiry from a citizen living on Lake Howell regarding the algae blooms
and the difficulty it presented to boating. She inquired whether a resolution to that issue was being
considered. Mr. Newlon and Mr. Gisclar confirmed that maintenance of Lake Howell is done by
Seminole County and not the City.
Inquired about progress in hiring of a new Code Enforcement Officer and was advised by Ms. Smith
that the search had been narrowed to seven applications which were under review.
Vice Mayor Colleen Hufford — Seat No. 4:
• Commended Officer Tiffany Daniels for her recent actions in providing assistance to two senior
citizens in the community.
• Noted that the Hot Rods & Rock `N' Roll Car Show and Concert event had been a big success and
added that she was glad to hear about the "green bazaar" concept for the Casselberry Farmers Market.
• Attended a recent meeting of the Oviedo -Winter Springs Chamber of Commerce meeting and had an
opportunity to speak with Congressman John Mica.
• Congratulated Mr. Meadows and Commissioner Aramendia on qualifying unopposed and wished
Commissioner Solomon well in her campaign.
• Announced that the Casselberry Chamber of Commerce was hosting its Hob Nob at Lyman High
School on Monday June 16, 2014 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and encouraged everyone to attend for an
opportunity to meet candidates in upcoming elections. She added that the proceeds from the event
would benefit the Chamber's Scholarship Fund for graduating seniors from the Casselberry area.
Mayor Charlene Glancy — Seat No. 5:
• Also congratulated Mr. Andrew Meadows and Commissioner Aramendia and wished Commissioner
Solomon good luck in her Commission race.
• Mentioned that Construction & Permitting Manager Marty Pawlikowski had received a letter of
commendation.
• Noted that the City of Casselberry had indicated support of the penny sales tax by a 59-41 % vote in
favor of the tax and she felt this showed a good understanding by the community of what it will be
able to do for the schools and the local communities.
• Stated that the Hot Rods & Rock `N' Roll Concert and Car Show was an incredibly successful event.
