CASSCLBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of January 11, 2021 — Regular Meeting
Page 11 of 14
1. Ms. Emily Orey, no address given, stated she was a Casselberry resident and requested that the
following comments be recorded verbatim in the record: "On January 5, 2021, the day before
the domestic terrorist attack on our Nation's Capitol, Vice Mayor/Commissioner Mark Busch
had a video posted of him on the website Rumble. This video was posted from the Paint the
Trump group that has been on the side of 17-92 and 436. Vice Mayor Busch stated, and I quote
`He's going to have one to two million people standing outside the Capitol. They better do the
right thing, and these people, they're foaming at the mouth mad right now. They've got
pitchforks and torches and if they don't do what they should be doing, watch out; all bets are
off. And you know what, maybe we have to go through that because they're just not listening
to us. I think at this point we just don't care anymore.' Are these words that should be spoken
by a non-partisan elected official? Vice Mayor Busch knew he was being recorded. He relished
in the fact that he was noticed by this group and he was being championed as a real patriot.
Well, there are a lot of troubling things that Vice Mayor Busch said or stood by idly while his
supporters and friends stated them on video. Calling for an insurrection on our Nation's Capitol
is inexcusable and Vice Mayor Busch needs to resign for these horrendous and troubling
actions. These are not the words of a man that cares deeply about all citizens of Casselberry.
These are words from a man that only cares about his own political gain. Vice Mayor Busch
is fully aware of the violent attacks and baiting of passing individuals that this group has
burdened our city with within the last several months and yet he has still has chosen to take an
active role in their dangerous weekly events and has done so proudly. This behavior does not
bode well for our city or its Commission. It's important to not normalize violent rhetoric from
our elected officials. I hope that the Commission will use this opportunity to show our
community that our city will not accept this behavior from those that represent us. As I stand
here today looking at you, Vice Mayor Busch, I urge you to resign because you're not fit to be
a face of leadership for our beautiful diverse community. Thank you."
2. Ms. Stephanie Fuller, 816 Rogers Court, requested that the following comments be recorded
verbatim in the record, adding that she had a written copy for the City Commission. "The heart
of America is embodied in our free and fair election process. While we may not always like
the result of an election, and we are certainly also free to express our displeasure with it — I've
done so quite often — someone who has been elected by this very process should not call into
question its veracity without presenting evidence of their claims. Freedom carries
responsibility as well; and one of those responsibilities for elected officials is to act as the
representative of ALL of your constituency, not just those who agree with you. Mark Busch
was featured in a video calling into question the results of the 2020 presidential election while
he was waving flags with the same group that has been involved in violent altercations before,
and which knocked down a Casselberry Police Officer several months ago. While it is his right
to speak freely, he is not free from dealing with the consequences of his actions, and that's why
we are here today. Mr. Busch, you absolutely did not speak for me or my household when you
dismissed our fair, legal, and considered votes for Mr. Biden as invalid. Further, you certainly
did not speak for us when you encouraged "patriots" to descend onto our Nation's Capitol and
disrupt a joint session of Congress undertaking their constitutional duties in certifying this past
election. This group did damage to our nation's buildings and caused five deaths, one of them
a police officer. As they are placed on no-fly lists and are being rounded up and arrested, they
are learning the costs of their actions. And you, sir, need to accept responsibility for your own
part in encouraging these people. I call upon you to resign your office immediately. Failing
that, I call on all citizens of Casselberry to recall Mark Busch for his part in furthering the
rhetoric that led to the actions at the Capitol on January 6th, 2021. Thank you for hearing me
