Mr. Walt Bagley, 614 Doheny Way, suggested including a 4,000-5,000 square -foot <br />community event pavilion and gave suggestions for where he felt it could be located. <br />2. Ms. Jamie Roselius, 470 Lilac Road, stated she was excited about the planned <br />improvements and suggested the addition of more bike racks and also keeping the new pool <br />open year-round. She was not in favor of a larger event pavilion replacing any of the <br />planned new features, as she felt the community building expansion would meet those needs. <br />3. Mr. Chuck Morris, 255 Shady Hollow, expressed approval of the proposed improvements, <br />especially the pool area and the addition of the warming kitchen to the expanded community <br />building. <br />No one else came forward. <br />Discussion: Discussion ensued amongst the City Commissioners, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board <br />members, the consultants and staff regarding the various proposed elements of the park, including: <br />advantages of extending the pool usage to year-round; need for additional bike parking; whether there was a <br />need for both a zero entry pool and a splash pad; possibility of addition of a concession stand; pavilion rental <br />options and capacity of the planned pavilions; advantages of having both the zero entry pool and a lap pool; <br />trail connections; utilization of available space; possibility for a concierge area or office space in the expanded <br />community building; need for an additional access from the warming kitchen into the banquet room for use by <br />caterers; possibility of re -designing the splash pad area into additional picnic areas; utilization of the <br />powerline easement for parking areas; concern that the type of trees planned for the parking area should be <br />understory trees due to the power lines; room for future expansion of the park to the east; community building <br />design; possibility of expanding the doors for more accessibility to the outdoor patio area; whether the size of <br />the multi-purpose field would accommodate soccer; depth of the lap pool and the possibility of having it <br />heated for use in cooler months; feasibility of adding additional water features to the zero entry pool in lieu of <br />the planned splash pad; whether there had been any security or safety concerns at Wirz Park; need to ensure <br />adequate space for staff support of events and programs; capacity and potential uses for the expanded <br />community building; and the potential for an additional pavilion between the lap pool and multipurpose field <br />to provide more shade area. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board members and the City Commissioners <br />all expressed appreciation for the thoughtful design of the planned improvements and felt the updated park <br />would be a great asset to the City and the community. <br />CONSENSUS: The City Commission agreed by consensus to leave the proposed design in place <br />with the possible addition of more shade features such as sail shades or <br />umbrellas near the pool and playground areas. <br />
