community youth groups, ages 10 to 17 years, to volunteer in any of the
upcoming projects, notify him in advance.
*Board Member Tony Tizzio left meeting*
Upcoming Events: December 6: Lake Howell High School — Working with
students from Casselberry, Maitland, and Winter Park. Ms. Williams and lakes
managers from the other municipalities will be teaching approximately 60
students in the AP environmental program about surface water pollution and
stormwater treatment.
December 8: Lake District Clean-up — to remove debris from the storm drains.
(Flyer distributed). This drainage basin eventually flows to the southern end
of the Triplet Chain, wherein the City has plans to install an alum treatment
system.
Discussions: Ms. Williams explained how a nutrient separating baffle box
works and showed images to illustrate the process. She compared and
contrasted them with dry retention areas and exfiltration systems. For
additional information, our most recent Storm Water plan is available on our
website www.Cosselberry.org/lakes.
A. Mr. Case asked question regarding the function of the Street Sweeper. It
was explained that it picks up trash from the streets and dumps it in a roll
off to be taken to the landfill. The City completed a study years ago
regarding how effective this equipment has been and it was determined
that street sweeping is the most cost effective way to reduce pollution to
our lakes. The City will be using an additional contracted sweeper during
the heavy leaf fall season in 2019. This was a recommendation from our
Storm Water Master Plan. We try to heavily discourage residents from
blowing leaves in the storm drains. If you see this being done, please
inform Ms. Williams and she can hang a "friendly" door hanger to educate
the importance of not doing this.
6. Audience Participation: Mr. Jason Kirby, 321 Iris Road- Mr. Kirby introduced himself
and explained that he is a resident of Casselberry and also owns an environmental
consulting business called Enviraquatic. He offered his services and advice should the
City need guidance or support in the future.
7. Next Meeting: Wednesday, February 6, 2019.
8. Future Meeting Agenda Items: Appointing a Chair and Vice Chair
9. Adjournment: Motion for Adjournment, By Ms. Johansson and seconded by Mr. Taylor.
Motion passed unanimously.
Mi l tes approved by Lakes Management Advisory Board on
11a4 __)
Denyse Wilson, Recording Secretary Date
4
