property, this will be the first time we have been able to do so. If there is
anyone on a lakefront that is having a treatment that has any irrigation
restrictions, we will be notifying them with door hangers.
A. Educational Outreach: We just finished Earth Fest. It was the best that
Ms. Williams has participated in. There was standing room only for the
educational presentations. There was over (300) trees and plants given to
attendees, including at least twelve different trees and plant species in the
distribution. She brought a green tote bag from the event for each Board
member. Bob Hotaling and Tom Maccubbin, Master Gardeners who are
very well known locally, participated as speakers as they have in previous
Earth Fest events. Seminole County provided a fertilizer workshop, and
shared information regarding the new County -wide fertilizer ordinance.
We would like to plan workshops in the future for Seminole County to
come and speak to our residents regarding this issue. Ms. Williams
presented photos for viewing of the event. She also brought a video
produced by Schoolyard Films in coordination with the non-profit
organization that she volunteers with, The Cambrian Foundation. Ms.
Williams explained that she plans to use it for outreach presentations and
summer camp sessions. The Board applauded at the end of the video.
Ms. Williams shared that some scenes in the video are a part of our
community, such as the painted curb inlet at Secret Lake Park, and also
Mead Gardens, through with the upstream portion of Howell Creek flows
through Winter Park and eventually leads to Lake Howell and the St. Johns
River. The video will also provide a connection with outreach conducted
by the City's Utilities Division, including their educational outreach
regarding impacts of the aquifer and where our drinking water comes
from.
Pictures of the Vac Truck Wrap were shared. This is the result of the input
from the Lakes Management Advisory Board for its initial design. It will be
installed on the truck in a few weeks, and pictures will be provided at our
next meeting.
B. Upcoming Events: On Saturday May 19th, 2018 the Lake Howell Municipal
Service Benefit Unit (MSBU) is funding a shoreline restoration event.
Residents can volunteer to have their shore lines revegetated. The event link
was emailed to you and you will need to sign up on the link provided if you
would like to participate.
Lake Jesup Restoration: This event is coordinated through Seminole County's
SERV program, and Black Hammock will donate air boats. June 2, 2018, 9:00
am — 12:00 pm. We will be planting eel grass and working in about waist deep
water.
2
