had any contacts that she could inquire with. He stated will get her that
information. He works with the youth at his church and he may bring
some to our next meeting so that they can get an overview of what the
City is doing to conserve the lakes.
Upcoming Events: Earth Fest will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
We would like to focus on the changes to the fertilizer ordinance to inform
the community of these changes and the Lakes Guide will be printed and
available. Job descriptions for the new lake technicians have been
completed, which will be proposed in October. We will demo air boats for
eventual purchase to get our equipment up to standards for these
positions. This will highly improve our level of service and response times.
The education requirements for the new position will be entry level, but
an Aquatic and Natural Areas Certification from the Florida Department of
Agriculture and Consumer Services is required. This allows the applicant
the ability to apply treatment in the aquatic and wetland environments.
Three years in experience is being asked.
The Board inquired about the regulations regarding hunting of waterfowl
within the City. Marissa explained that a duck hunter has frequently
accessed Middle Triplet for permitting hunting of water fowl which raised
concern among citizens. The City is currently exploring the possibility of
having the City designated as a bird sanctuary by FWC.
The City now has a permit for Lake Kathryn. It was an easy process. Ms.
Williams shared a picture of the educational "wrap" for the stormwater
vacuum truck. It was suggested to add our lakes web site address. We
would like to have this completed by Earth Fest. This truck cleans out the
storm sewer system, removing all of the debris that the treatment
systems capture. Water bodies are sprayed on a monthly basis. Some
lakes require more frequent treatments. Mr. Lasure has a desire to learn
more about the lake treatment activities so that he could better explain to
the residents that he represents as a Board member. Ms. Williams shared
that she would gladly share any information that would be helpful to any
board member. Email her and she will give information specifically to
what is needed to be shared with the residents.
D. Future Meetings: August 1, 2018 and November 7, 2018
6. Audience Participation: Mr. Casselberry had a question regarding alum, to see if it is
effective in any of our lakes, maybe able to get clearer water. We need secchi disk
readings to clarify the water in our lakes.
7. Future LMAB Agenda Items: None at this time
8. Adjournment: Motion for Adjournment, By Mr. Lasure and seconded by Ms. Hatton.
3
