Community Redevelopment Agency Minutes
April 23, 2018
Ms. Colleen Hufford, 527 Queens Mirror Circle, Casselberry, Florida came forward. Ms. Hufford said she
hoped the Board continued to think outside the box. She suggested locating the medical facility on the west side of
US Highway 17/92 and constructing a pedestrian bridge for access. She said that would free up space to use more
effectively for City events. She said people love coming to our park and we could add so much more with an event
center and more restaurants.
Mr. Larry Littrell, 124 North Lost Lake Lane, Casselberry, Florida came forward. Mr. Littrell said that the
process of relocating the Police Station should be looked at as a want/need situation. He said the City needs a
Police Department and it may want an event center. He said it would be great to have an event center but he did not
know if it was financially feasible at this time. Mr. Littrell said the focus needs to be on the residents. He said the
City needs a great parks and recreation system. He said the parks and recreation system is the foundation that will
build our median income that will bring people to Casselberry and increase our tax base. He said we need to
concentrate on our neighborhoods.
Mr. Neil Landgrebe, 451 Lilac Road, Casselberry, Florida came forward. Mr. Landgrebe said he is opposed
to making any changes to the Police Station. He said the Police Station is an anchor to the City and it shows
strength.
Mr. John Casselberry, 700 South Lost Lake Lane, Casselberry, Florida came forward. Mr. Casselberry
suggested demolishing the lobby area of the Police Station and replacing it with a two-story structure to gain more
square footage. He said the first floor would be the event center and the second floor would remain as the Police
Station. Mr. Casselberry said he was not in favor of demolishing the Police Station.
In response to the Board's question, Mr. Adams stated that the event center would cost approximately $7
million and that cost does not include the demolition of the Police Station. Ms. Glancy said the long-term vision of the
corridor and Lake Concord Park needs to be considered.
A brief discussion ensued regarding looking at how the City wants to grow and scheduling additional
meetings at the City Commission level to discuss the costs, financing etc.
Mr. Newlon said that the City is trying to establish a greater recognition of the City brand and a better
perception of what that means.
