CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of November 20, 2017 — Special Meeting
Page 13 of 14
17. CITY COMMISSIONERS' REPORTS/COMMENTS
Commissioner Andrew Meadows — Seat No. 2
Questioned Mr. Newlon about the next step that would be taken in order for the City to
assist the residents who had submitted the petitions regarding the animal issue. Mr.
Newlon advised staff would need to meet with representative members of the group of
petitioners to go over the petitions and try to boil it down to an objective that would be
actionable, then come up with a strategy for achieving that objective if at all possible.
Commissioner Sandra Solomon - Seat No. 3:
• Wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
Commissioner Bill Hufford — Seat No. 4:
Suggested there were two elements relating to the dog issue discussed earlier, which were
how to address the actual dangerous dog issue and how to address any code violation or
nuisance property issues with the property owner, and he felt the overall situation should
be addressed.
Reported that Chief Krantz had met recently with a group of local pastors for a dialog on
measures which could be taken to prevent a tragedy such as the recent shooting at a church
in Texas.
Vice Mayor Anthony Aramendia - Seat No. 1:
Wished all those in attendance a Happy Thanksgiving with family and friends.
Mayor Glancy — Seat No. 5:
Suggested that Mr. Newlon may wish to contact Ms. Karen Nolan or Ms. Katie Flynn from
the list of citizens who had spoken during Citizen Comments for suggestions regarding
selection of a representative group to meet with staff about how to proceed with pursuing
changes in legislation regarding animal control. She stated she felt they would be a good
resource for this as they were both members of the family that was personally affected by
the tragic dog attack. She added that she also felt there were both a dog issue and a dog
owner issue that needed to be addressed.
Congratulated Commissioner Meadows on a very successful Casselberry Chamber of
Commerce Food and Wine Festival and commended him on the work he had personally
put in to make it such a success.
