City of Casselberry <br />Parks & Recreation Advisory Board <br />Regular Meeting— Marcb 14, 2017 <br />"Wine on Nine" is scheduled for Saturday, May 6th at the Casselberry Golf Club. <br />This is the second fundraiser of the year for the Arts program. <br />Chair Van Meter inquired about the EarthFest workshops and venue planned. <br />The EarthFest schedule will include an Arbor Day proclamation by the Mayor, <br />tree planting workshops, aqua planting workshops and gardening workshops. <br />Marissa Williams has a full day lineup of guest speakers and give-away programs. <br />There will also be a "Recycled Art Exhibit", the ECOuture Fashion show with <br />recycled products, and the Drop Savers contest to recognize the Drop Savers <br />program winners. This year's T-shirt art was created by Tom Sadler. Bicyclists <br />are encouraged to bike to the event and a secured area will be designated for <br />bike parking. All riders will receive a coupon for a free Icee. <br />® Playground installation for the new Lake Concord Park extension is progressing. <br />Should be installed sometime in April. <br />6, Board Member Reports <br />• Member Holmes reached out to Casselberry Elementary in regards to EarthFest. <br />• Member Nordstrom — no report. <br />• Member Icenhower— Provided Silent Auction update for the Garden Party. <br />• Chairman Van Meter—Visited Secret Lake Park and was concerned about some <br />of the deteriorating park areas. She mentioned there was some rust and jagged <br />areas on the older pieces of playground equipment. She also mentioned that the <br />boardwalk is covered with wild animal feces and has several popped nails. She <br />is concerned about whether in the future, older parks can be maintained <br />especially if new parks are being installed. Member Nordstrom suggested that <br />this could be presented to the Commission as a recommendation to maintain <br />existing parks before building new ones and maybe the Friends of the Park could <br />help by volunteering for various park upgrading. Linda Moore reported that the <br />Parks Master Plan will address these issues. The consultants have visited and <br />assessed all park areas and playground equipment and will be making <br />recommendations to address all of the outstanding issues. <br />• Chairman Van Meter also suggested that perhaps lighting can be installed on the <br />boardwalk area at Secret Lake Park and said that the grill by the baseball field <br />area needs to be replaced. <br />• Motion: Member Holmes made the motion to recommend to the <br />Commissioners to hold off on developing new parks until the older parks are <br />maintained and upgraded properly. Member Nordstrom seconded and the <br />Board passed unanimously 4-0. <br />
