Dew Drop Pond Shoreline Planting Event — The plants from the phase II
planting event were accidentally mowed down by the City's contractor
,but they will be replaced free of charge.
B. Educational Outreach: On January 23rd we hosted the annual Air Potato
Mega Raid at the Marigold Trailhead and Carriage Hill Conservation Area.
The biocontrol air potato beetle that was released a couple years ago
continues to make a significant dent in the plant's population. There
were (100) volunteers, searching for air potato bulbils throughout both
sites. Public Works will plan another raid for next year but it will need to
be hosted at another site as these locations have been picked clean.
On April 23rd the City's Natural Resources Officer, in partnership with
Seminole County's Extension Agent Taryn Sudol, hosted the inaugural
Triplet Chain Eco- Paddle at Secret Lake Park. Participants were taught
about management of the City's surface waters and stormwater pollution
prevention before taking a complimentary kayak tour of Middle, North,
and South Lake Triplet.
Earthfest was this past Saturday. It was a great success. The City gave
away over 200 plants/trees. Planning of next year's event at Lake Concord
Park will begin in January.
Storm Drain Art Pilot Project — Located near Secret Lake Recreation
Center: Artists from Sanford Seminole Art Association using donated
supplies from the Casselberry Home Depot, volunteered and painted an
existing storm drain with environmental themes related to native ecology
and stormwater pollution prevention. The artwork was designed with the
saying "Only Rain Down the Drain". They will be back next Monday if you
would like to come join them. The project meshes well with the City's
focus on art work and environmental conservation.
C. The Board was informed that this topic would be up for
discussion at future LMAB meetings as the Public Works Department
proceeded with a review and update of the Stormwater Master Plan.
