The City currently manages nine (9) lakes: Queens Mirror, Concord,
Grassy, Griffin, Lost, Secret, North, Middle, and South Triplet for aquatic
plants. This equates to 161 acres of surface water that is treated. Lake
Howell is not a lake that we manage independently, but rather it is
managed jointly by Seminole County with direction from the City. There
are a total of 24 lakes in the City.
C. Special Presentation — Friends of Lake Kathryn (FOLK) — Mr. Ron Bryant
and Mr. Tom Schwartz members of the Friends of Lake Kathryn Society
gave a presentation regarding the water body and surrounding drainage
basin. The Society's main concern is the treatment of Lake Kathryn by the
City. They presented their suggestions as to why it should be treated
along with all other lakes in the City. A copy was distributed. There was a
question and answer session.
Mr. Bradford Gonzalez spoke on storm drainage issues.
Ms. Williams shared that if policy changes are to be made, the Board will
review data presented by staff/citizens and make a recommendation to
the City Commission for their consideration.
***The Folks of Lake Kathryn Society members left at 7:15 pm.
D. Upcoming Events - Volunteer revegetation of the shoreline of Lake
Concord to achieve compliance with the St. Johns River Water
Management District for mitigation purposes. This project includes an
application to obtain a grant funding from the Florida Lake Management
Society to supplement purchase of aquatic plants and installation of
educational signage. This year's Earth Fest is the last Saturday in April and
we are already soliciting for volunteers and attendees. This year the event
will be held at Secret Lake Park.
E. Casselberry Golf Club — Integrity is hiring a contractor to spray the
ponds/ditches throughout the course and they will be maintaining them
going forward. The City's consultant Singhofen and Associates has been
contracted to analyze the golf course and conduct a study to determine
the best use of the land. They will also evaluate lake accessibility to
improve the City's ability to maintain the Triplet Chain of Lakes.
F. Meeting Frequency— Marissa Williams informed the Board that in the
future we may need to meet on a monthly basis instead of quarterly to
review updates to the Stormwater Master plan. Board members feedback
was requested to ensure attendance at these meetings.
2
