Community Redevelopment Agency
April 17, 2014
owner of Shoot Straight, Mr. Khaled Akkawi, advising that the City will be reviewing the cut through option in the
future. She explained that it had been previously discussed but it would require discussions with the businesses and
residents in the area to get their feedback.
Ms. Smith asked the Board if there was a better day or time that would better accommodate the Board
members schedules to ensure that there is a quorum for the meeting. She requested the Board provide their input to
her regarding possible meeting times.
Ms. Smith stated that Ms. Leslie Peters has submitted her resignation and she thanked her for her service
on the CRA Board.
In response to the Board's question regarding the status of Mr. Walter Judge's project, Ms. Smith stated that
construction has started on the site. She explained that the project was delayed due to obtaining the documentation
for the easement for the lift station. Ms. Smith said that the CRA has granted several extensions to the $30,000
Facade Improvement Grant and she would be bringing a request for an extension to the facade grant at the next
CRA meeting.
In response to the Board's question, Ms. Smith said that Mr. Steve Triece was retained to look at properties
along the CRD corridor. She said that Mr. Triece reached out to several property owners along the corridor regarding
the sale of their properties. She said that information was presented to the Board and the Board determined that
they were not viable projects. Ms. Smith said that Mr. Triece and Mr. Kyle Dudgeon, Economic Development
Planner, looked at additional properties along the corridor for the CRA to consider and based on that information
there were no properties along the US Highway 17/92 corridor that were feasible for the CRA to purchase. She said
there was nothing that met the criteria that the CRA had discussed at previous meetings.
Tenth Item of Business: Public Comments
Mr. John Casselberry, 700 South Lost Lake Lane, Casselberry, Florida came forward. Mr. Casselberry felt
that the US Highway 17/92 /State Road 436 Flyover Project will eventually change the traffic congestion in the area.
He thought that the signal timing has been changed so things are happening faster. Mr. Casselberry suggested
holding off on the City Center project until the flyover construction begins.
Twelfth Item of Business: Adjournment
