CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of October 14, 2013 — Regular Meeting
Page 11 of 11
Advised that the Roundtable Discussion meetings with state legislators would be held on October 23,
2013 and October 28, 2013. She added that this would be a good opportunity to hear about some of
the bills that are being brought forth, and to give the legislators information about how those bills
would affect the City of Casselberry.
Expressed some concerns about the condition of the City of Casselbetry banners around the City. Ms.
Gardner advised she had plans to discuss with the City Manager the possibly of purchasing new
banners to celebrate the City's 75th anniversary in 2015. Commissioner Hufford suggested that
possibly the most weathered ones could just be taken down and not replaced until the new ones for the
anniversary were purchased.
Thanked the Commission for listening to the concerns about widening of the sidewalk on South Lake
Triplet Drive where it dead ends into Queens Mirror Drive.
Vice Mayor Sandra Solomon — Seat No. 3:
Expressed appreciation for all the volunteers and staff who make all the City's events so successful.
Passed along some concerns she had received from a resident about a fee being charged for playing
bridge at the Recreation Center. Mr. Newlon explained that there had been a situation where the
regular bridge group had been preempted for another event and although the contact person had been
advised in advance by City staff, word did not make it through the bridge group to everyone and there
was some confusion when the players arrived at the center. He stated that he did not have any
information regarding whether fees were being charged or not but could find out.
Mayor Charlene Glancy — Seat No. 5:
Thanked Commissioner Hufford on working to organize the Roundtable Discussion meetings.
Commissioner Hufford and Mr. Newlon confirmed that there would be a prepared agenda with some
of the City's concerns to bring to the legislators' attention. Commissioner Hufford also added that
Representative Brodeur would be presenting the latest information on pension reform.
Advised she had just received an email from the Florida League of Cities on behalf of Senator
Simmons today regarding a bill he is proposing relating to the condition and protection ofthe springs,
lakes and aquifer and he was asking for feedback from all of the cities.
18.
