CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION <br />Minutes of October 23, 2013 — Special Meeting <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />Mayor Glancy gave a brief explanation of how the meeting would be conducted, stating there would be an <br />introduction by City Manager Randy Newlon and that Commissioner Colleen Hufford would act as moderator <br />for the purpose of proceeding through the agenda. She added that there would also be closing remarks and an <br />opportunity for citizen comments at the end of the agenda. <br />4. INTRODUCTION TO CASSELBERRY - CITY MANAGER <br />RANDY NEWLON <br />City Manager Randy Newlon welcomed Senator Simmons and Representative Castor Dentel, and gave a brief <br />overview of the City, including its history, demographics, current and future projects, and services provided to <br />its residents. <br />5. GUEST REMARKS (COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS, <br />PERSONAL INITIATIVES, OTHER EMERGING ISSUES) <br />Commissioner Hufford thanked Mr. Newlon for his introduction, and introduced Ms. Kathy Till, Advocacy <br />Programs Coordinator for Florida League of Cities, who was also in attendance. She thanked Ms. Till for all <br />she has done on behalf of the cities. <br />Senator David Simmons <br />Commissioner Hufford introduced Senator David Simmons who gave a brief history of his service in the <br />Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate, including his committee assignments, both past and <br />current. He then gave an overview of his personal initiatives and other issues on which he has been focusing. <br />These topics included: <br />1. Water rights and preservation of Florida's water resources; <br />2. Citizens' property insurance; <br />3. Stand Your Ground Law; <br />4. Education. <br />Representative Karen Castor Dentel <br />Commissioner Hufford introduced Representative Karen Castor Dentel who gave a brief history of her service <br />in the Florida House of Representatives, including her committee assignments, both past and current. She <br />introduced her District Aide, Helen Miller, and her Legislative Aide, Dominique Gelin, who were also present. <br />She then gave an overview of her personal initiatives and other issues on which she has been focusing. These <br />topics included: <br />Education; <br />Economic Development; <br />
