Casselberry Economic Development Advisory Board
Minutes of September 17, 2013 Meeting
Page 3
advantageous if the City offered incentives for lower rent, or addressed other problems related to overcoming issues
that property owners have in attracting new clients to rent space
EDAB Recommendations White Paper
Mr. Kyle Dudgeon, Economic Development Planner, stated that staff direction was to review the edits and
discussions the board had at last month's meeting and refer to them to more thoroughly grasp their
recommendations.
A discussion ensued regarding combining event vendors /sponsors with economic development attraction
strategies. They stated vendors who are consistently coming to City events should consider moving their operations
to Casselberry. The board advised that economic development staff should coordinate with Ms. Ehrlich on this issue.
The board commented that the recommendation one's (1) vision should be reworded to clarify that not only
is Casselberry asking how it can serve the business community, but to include that in return, the City should be
asking the business community to serve Casselberry.
The board additionally said that recommendation two (2) should include a letter to all businesses by mail
during the business tax receipt renewal season. They said this should help promote the goal of improving the
communal and economic climate of Casselberry.
The board concluded that recommendation five (5) was of particular value in that its purpose is different
than the City of Casselberry Chamber and could provide for separate networking opportunities through the City.
Mr. Dudgeon requested a motion from the board to approve the Economic Development Advisory Board
White Paper. Ms. Walden moved to accept the White Paper, Mr. Crossman seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously by voice vote.
Other Business
Mr. Dudgeon stated that the board has moved ahead of their original timeline so they've been able to
develop their thoughts more quickly. He stated that once the City Manager has reviewed the white paper he will bring
it forward to the City Commission.
