Casselberry Economic Development Advisory Board <br />Minutes of September 17, 2013 Meeting <br />Page 2 <br />Presentation: Special Events — Maria Ehrlich <br />Ms. Maria Ehrlich, Special Events /Marketing Coordinator, reviewed information provided in a PowerPoint <br />presentation regarding special events in the City. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation is attached and made a part <br />of the minutes. <br />Mr. Grossman arrived at the meeting at 11:37 am. <br />A discussion ensued regarding the value of special events. Ms. Ehrlich stated that it's becoming increasingly <br />more difficult for employers to donate or participate in City special events, but that the City has still received <br />significant turnout for their events. She said that there is a lot of competition for corporate sponsorships. <br />A follow -up discussion ensued relative to the efficient administration of City events. The board stated that <br />each event has been detail- oriented, well executed and, sends a positive message to the community and individuals <br />outside the City. The board also advised that staff develop a set of metrics to define successful events. For example, <br />staff should track the percentage of returning vendors from each event or growth in attendance. The board stated <br />that this is a good way to attract new corporate sponsors. <br />Mr. Ritchie arrived at the meeting at 11:58 am. <br />The board questioned how the City events are advertised. Ms. Ehrlich responded by stating their <br />department has an extensive media list including newspapers, radio, periodicals and various internet mediums. <br />Business Attraction —Top 100 <br />Mr. Kyle Dudgeon, Economic Development Planner, stated that at last month's meeting, the board with the <br />assistance of staff, developed a potential business attraction list to be used in conjunction with the recommendations <br />white paper. He stated that last month's comments were incorporated into the revised list. He discussed each item on <br />the list for the board to review. <br />The board commented that an additional partnership should be included to account for partnerships with <br />private sector business owners to attract new firms /tenants. They also said this partnership would be further <br />
