CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of August 26, 2013 — Regular Meeting
Page 16 of 17
Advised she was still working on coordinating a meeting between the Seminole County cities and all
the state legislators for this area, including Representatives Castor Dentel, Brodeur, Clelland and
Senator Simmons. She added that she felt this was a proactive approach to making local issues known
to those representing the area in Tallahassee. After a brief discussion with the other Commissioners, it
appeared that October 15, 2013 was the most convenient date for them; however, she noted she would
have to see what worked best for the Representatives and Senator, and she would keep them advised.
Vice Mayor Sandra Solomon — Seat No. 3:
• Thanked Chief Harkins for showing her the new fire truck.
• Reported some concerns she had received from citizens in the area of the Red Bug Lake Road flyover
project regarding possible problems the construction and the flyover could pose for emergency
vehicles entering and exiting the fire station located there. She stated she felt this was something that
should be further discussed by the Commission.
• Expressed appreciation to Linda Moore and Maria Ehrlich for making a presentation about the City's
events at a recent Casselberry Chamber of Commerce meeting.
• Stated she had noticed there had not been any recent tree plantings in the neighborhoods and inquired
about the status of the neighborhood tree project. Mr. Gisclar explained that they were not planting
during the hot summer months, as they had received complaints about the trees looking dead even
though they were alive. He added that they would start planting again in the fail.
Commissioner Fry stated he would like to add his thanks to Chief Harkins for showing him the new fire truck
and had missed mentioning it during his comments.
Mayor Charlene Glancy — Seat No. 5:
• Stated she had not been able to attend the Run Yak but heard it was a great event and hoped it would
be a trendsetter.
• Commented she thought the story about the release of the beetles was very interesting and was a great
idea, especially in light of how much time volunteers had spent in the past pulling the vines. She
added that it would be interesting to see how successful the program would be.
• Reported that the Florida League of Cities was great and there was a session on economic
development that she especially enjoyed. She stated that she would organize her notes and bring the
information back at another meeting.
• Advised she had attended an event for the Steinway Society which the City of Casselberry had
sponsored by printing the programs. She stated the event was "Divas in Concert" held at the Orlando
Museum of Art featuring a great line -up of Broadway singers. She added that the event was to raise
funds to help young people learn to play the piano who otherwise would not have an opportunity to do
so.
There being no further business, Mayor Glancy adjourned the meeting at 7:23 p.m.
