CASSELBERRY CITY COMMISSION <br />Minutes of August 26, 2013 — Regular Meeting <br />Page 15 of 17 <br />16. CITY CLERK'S REPORT <br />No report. <br />17. CITY COMMISSIONERS' REPORTS /COMMENTS <br />Commissioner Anthony Aramendia — Seat No. 1: <br />• Thanked Chief Harkins for the tour of the new fire truck. <br />• Reported that the Runyak event last Saturday had been a great success. <br />• Commended Officer Zorn for removing a python which was found in the Carriage Hill subdivsion. <br />• Thanked Sara Brady for her article about the beetles which were released in the Secret Lake Park, <br />Wirz Trail and Marigold Bike Trail areas as a measure for controlling the spread of invasive <br />air potato plants. <br />Commissioner Gene Fry — Seat No. 2: <br />• Added his thanks to Sara Brady for the excellent article on the release of the beetles which had gone <br />out to the local media and also to the BBC. He stated that the beetles were being utilized by the <br />Florida Department of Agriculture as a natural way to control the potato vines rather than using <br />chemicals, and that several other communities also had releases although the largest was in <br />Casselberiy. He added that he hoped to see a significant reduction in potato vines in those areas where <br />the beetles were released. <br />• Gave kudos to Commissioner Hufford for the recognition she received at the Florida League of Cities <br />conference as a Home Rule Hero. <br />• Also commended Officer Zorn for her handling of the snake incident. <br />• Commented on Mr. Fraleigh's notification about the lighting issue along U.S. 17 -92 in the Lake <br />Concord area and requested that staff follow up to make sure the lights were functioning properly. <br />• Stated that the Run Yak event was a success and thanked the organizers and participants who were <br />involved. He added he would like to see it become an even bigger event in the future. <br />Commissioner Colleen Hufford — Seat No. 4: <br />Thanked everyone involved in making the Run Yak event a success. <br />Stated the Florida League of Cities conference was an excellent event, with lots of information being <br />presented from many different points of view. <br />Reported she had attended an advocacy meeting in Maitland where Representative Castor Dentel <br />spoke on various issues affecting Orange and Seminole Counties. Added that she had also attended a <br />second meeting which was held in the Casselberry Police Department's Multi- Purpose Room and <br />Representative Clelland was the speaker and local issues including transportation were discussed. She <br />stated that these were good meetings that opened up communication between the local governments <br />and the state legislators. <br />
