CASSELBLRRY CITY COMMISSION
Minutes of May 13, 2013 — Regular Meeting
Page 14 of 18
on the bakery portion of the restaurant, and she would leave samples of the baked goods to be shared between
the Commission, staff and the public in attendance after the meeting.
A. Future Agenda Items
Commissioner Fry suggested he would like to see a discussion of the flyover as a future agenda item. He stated
he had recently attended a community meeting regarding the flyover and he felt that some of the different
proposals that were discussed at the meeting should be considered.
Discussion: Discussion ensued regarding the flyover project and the prospect of an alternate vision for the
intersection of U.S. Highway 17 -92 and State Road 436. Mr. Newlon stated he had been advised by Mr.
O'Day, an official with FDOT, that two at -grade proposals had been presented to FDOT by groups opposed to
the flyover project and the proposals had been reviewed and had been found to be less desirable than the
flyover for the purposes of moving traffic and pedestrian safety. He reminded the Commissioners that they had
recently expressed that their highest priority was that the project should get done in a timely manner and that
the fluids that were available this year for the project not be put in jeopardy. He stated that if the City goes
through MetroPlan and FDOT to request that other options be looked into, there was a risk that MetroPlan
could re- prioritize this project and put the money to use somewhere else. Both Mayor Glancy and
Commissioner Hufford felt the City should stay the course, as they had been working toward this project for
over ten years, and the City and FDOT had already invested a great deal of money in the project.
Commissioner Fry stated he still felt it would be important to hear what business owners in the area had to say
about what would affect their businesses.
B. Municipal Advisory Committee (Metroplan) Report — Mayor Glancy
Reported there was an update on SunRail, including the progress of the work on the platforms and parking
areas in the cities of Longwood, Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs and Maitland. She advised that the members
were shown photographs of the coaches and informed that they would be assembled in New York in late
November. She noted that later in the month information would be available at sunrail.com about ticket sales
and tracking of the development of the train cars.
C. Leadership Seminole Board Report — Mayor Glancy
No report.
D. Mayors /Managers Group Repoli — Mayor Glancy
No report.
